How do you properly set a manual slack adjuster?

A Pull the release lever while turning the adjusting nut clockwise. B Screw the adjusting nut until the slack adjuster's end stops moving toward the air chamber. Then turn the nut a quarter of a turn in the other direction to pull the brake shoes away from the inside of the brake drum. C Tighten the adjusting nut with a hammer until it feels tight. D None of the above
